Thai Massage, an ancient healing art based on Ayurvedic medicine and Yoga, is growing in popularity among Western yoga practitioners and massage therapists. This unique art form is a valuable addition to the repertoire of any massage therapist, physical therapist or natural healer.
The Basic Certification Course will cover the principles of the art of traditional Thai massage, an ancient form of interactive massage, energy meridian work, and yoga therapy. This will be a professional certification course, recognized nationally by the NCBTMB. All students completing the course will be given a certificate in Basic Thai Massage and will be granted authentic membership in the prestigious Shivago lineage of Northern Thailand. Certified massage therapists will earn 40 NCBTMB Continuing Education Credit Hours for participation.
This course will be led by Sarah Cheiky, LMT, NCTMB , and will promote the understanding of Thai massage in a holistic context of body, mind and energy work. Sarah will incorporate elements of traditional Thai culture, as well as look at the Ayurvedic roots of Thai medicine in the Yogic tradition. The course will also provide information on the practical aspects of professional massage therapy, including insurance regulations, business practices and ethics.
Our coursework will focus on the “Classic Routine" or Massage formalized by Ajahn Sintorn Chaichakan the founder of The Traditional Old Medicine Hospital, Chiang, Mai Thailand; As recorded and published by C. Pierce Salguero & David Roylance, in The Encyclopedia of Thai Massage.
You Can Expect To Learn:
Basic Thai Massage - Weekend I – 20 CE Hours
Includes introduction to all subjects with concentration of hands on massage techniques, thumbing the major Sen Lines of the arms and legs with beginning assisted yoga postures.
Basic Thai Massage - Weekend II- 20 CE Hours
introduces larger assisted yoga stretches with shoulder mobilization options, neck, head and face series, Thai culture and ample practice time.
October 2-4 | Basic Certification Course I
November 6-7 | Basic Certification Course II
*Both courses are required for certification. The Basic Certification Course I is a prerequisite to II.
In order to hold your spot in the Thai Massage Certification Program, a $99 non-refundable deposit will need to be made. This deposit will be applied to your tuition.
Your enrollment fee includes your course workbook "The Thai Encyclopedia." The full color copy is available online and is a suggested accompaniment.
To ensure individualized attention and instruction, this program will be capped at 12 participants.

Sarah Cheiky earned licensure as a massage therapist from the Ohio State Medical Board in 2003 after studying at the Harmony Path School of Massage in Rocky River, Ohio. She completed continuing education courses and a teaching apprenticeship in traditional Thai Massage from Dr. C. Pierce Salguero at his Tao Mountain School of Traditional Thai Massage with additional research and certifications at The Thai Institute of Arlington, Virginia. Traveling to Thailand has provided two amazing opportunities to study the cultures, spirit and bodywork of the ever-changing tradition. Her most recent experience was a well-known Mor Keaw healing retreat where she was one Westerner amongst 150 Native Thai.
In 2006, Sarah met the high standards for excellence established by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCTMB). She continues to expand her skills and knowledge with domestic and international studies in Vipassana Meditation, Thai and Buddhist Medicine. Sarah has also been formally welcomed into the family and lineages of The Traditional Old Medicine Hospital, and the SVG Thai Massage Training Center in Chiang Mai, Thailand and has been recognized internationally as a Master Body Worker. Sarah accepts this with great humility and continues to offer great respect to her clients and community, by allowing you to be the greatest teacher.
